State & Territorial Dental Public Health Activities: A Collection of Descriptive Summaries

The collection provides descriptive summaries of dental public health activities with contact information. The summaries include activities that state and territorial oral health programs lead, administer, partner, facilitate or support to improve the oral health of the state's citizens. The activities are considered successful within the context of the state and territories, their experiences, environments, and resources (such as existing local infrastructure, practice laws and program funding).

The collection:

  • Serves as a resource on who is doing what,
  • Offers a technical support network for contacting resource people directly involved in implementation, and
  • Provides ideas for developing or expanding services.

This collection should be useful to: state and territorial dental directors, local dental directors, dental public health program managers and staff, state and local government officials and their staff members, state and local dental societies, local oral health coalitions, and public/private funders.

This collection was initiated based on the efforts of 39 states (state oral health programs and their partners) submitting 116 practice descriptions to help the ASTDD Best Practices Committee analyze best practices for state and community oral health programs. The Committee decided that the information provided by the practice submissions should be shared through a collection of descriptive summaries. Further, the collection will be expanded with new and updated summaries when ASTDD calls for practice submissions on a regular, ongoing basis. As this collection grows, it will continue to be a unique resource for end-users searching for information on dental public health activities and will keep the ASTDD Best Practices Committee informed of current practices.
