ASTDD Basic Screening Survey for Children Planning and Implementation Packet
This packet, which consists of a CD and DVD, includes all the information you will need to plan and conduct a Basic Screening Survey of preschool or school age children. The CD contains the BSS Manual, an examiner training presentation with clinical slides, Epi Info files for data entry and basic analysis, a reference guide for screeners, along with information on the impact of HIPPA and IRB review on oral health surveys. The DVD contains 2 examiner training videos – one for dental professionals and another for non-dental professionals such as school nurses. We recommend that each organization conducting a BSS order 1 complete packet. The CD and DVD may be replicated if you need additional copies.

HIPPA and IRB Information on the CD was developed by ASTDD and is a short synopsis that gives you general guidance and resources on IRB reveiw and HiPAA compliance in terms of oral health surveys.
Basic Screening Survey Examiner Training Presentations on the CD is a short Power Point presentation that was developed as a framework for the didactic portion of an examiner training session. It includes the diagnostic criteria photos from the Basic Screening Survey manual plus other photos and items that you might find useful. The presentation is designed to be modified to meet your specific needs, so please take the time to review and adapt before using.
