Best Practice Approach Reports
Proven and promising practices for state, territorial, and community oral health programs.

About
the Reports
A Best Practice Approach Report brings together the research evidence, expert guidance, and real-world examples behind strategies that work so that programs can plan, evaluate, and potentially implement it in their own context.
ASTDD uses the term “best practice approach” deliberately: there is more than one “best” way to put a strategy into action. Leadership, political acceptability, available resources, feasibility, and local constraints all shape what succeeds. Each report lays out the approach and the evidence, then links to Descriptive Reports — success stories and lessons learned submitted by states, territories, and communities that have put the approach to work.
The best practice reports support progress toward the Healthy People 2030 Oral Health Objectives and to help meet the National Call to Action to Promote Oral Health.
The Best Practice and Descriptive Report pdfs will be available in the next phase of the website upgrade; in the meantime, please contact mzaborowski@astdd.org for a copy of any report(s).
How to Use the Reports

Plan a new program
Start with the research and guidance sections to make the case and design the approach.

Improve an existing program
Compare your implementation to the strategies and examples in the report.

Make the case to decision-makers
Use the evidence summaries and state examples to show what has worked elsewhere.
