In order to reduce pain, disability, and death caused by nicotine addition, AAPD recommends routine screening for tobacco use, treating tobacco dependence, preventing tobacco use among children and adolescents and educating the public on the enormous health and societal cost of tobacco.

Dental Professionals: Help Your Patients Quit Smoking
CDC includes a comprehensive list of training resources to assist dental professionals in developing an office tobacco program. Included in the resources is an ADA-certified online dental course.

NIH National Cancer Institute - Smokeless Tobacco and Cancer
Describes what smokeless tobacco is, how it can cause cancer and, how to go about assisting a person to quit using smokeless tobacco.

Presents an overview of diseases and conditions associated with smoking, which include gum (periodontal disease) and cancer.

Tobacco Use in Children and Adolescents: Primary Care Interventions.
U.S. Preventive Services Final Recommendation Statement recommending that primary care clinicians provide interventions including education or brief counseling, to prevent initiation of tobacco use among school-aged children and adolescents.

Toolkit for oral health professionals to deliver brief tobacco interventions in primary care
This toolkit was developed based on WHO Capacity Building Training Package 4 entitled "Strengthening health systems for treating tobacco dependence in primary care," the latest evidence on the association between tobacco use and oral diseases as well as the evidence on the benefits of tobacco cessation on oral health outcomes. Its target audience is oral health care providers. It aims to serve as a quick reference guide to help oral health care providers deliver brief tobacco interventions as part of their routine practice in primary care

Provides resources for individuals who want to stop smoking.

Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
Includes global, national, state and local resources and advocacy tools to combat smoking and tobacco use.

Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco (SRNT)
